Who We Are

Hitchcock, Bowman & Schachter (HBS), a professional corporation, was founded in the early 1960s by Donald Hitchcock. At that time, the firm was located in downtown Torrance, California, where the firm grew and earned the reputation as a preeminent law firm in the South Bay.  The firm later moved its offices to the California Bank & Trust building, formerly known as the Union Bank Tower.  HBS has maintained its current location since that time.

Throughout its history, HBS has been committed to civic activities and civic projects. Members of the firm have served as presidents of the Torrance Chamber of Commerce and have served on the boards of numerous civic organizations, including Rotary, Kiwanis, YMCA, Educational Foundations and other civic groups.

Attorney Profile

Robert Schachter joined the firm in 1977.  Mr. Schachter graduated from Loyola University of Los Angeles in 1976 and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973.

Mr. Schachter’s background and work ethic have allowed him to develop a strong understanding and the skill and judgment to provide competent and diligent representation that assures his clients of the best possible outcome.  He is a dedicated litigator who deeply cares about his clients’ needs and successfully obtaining the desired results in or out of the courtroom.

Mr. Schachter has acted not only as judge pro tempore in both the Los Angeles County Municipal Court and the Los Angeles County Superior Court but he is also regularly retained by outside parties or attorneys to handle “private” mediation matters.

Mr. Schachter is a member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
